The Heart Disease Reversal Program
Almost all heart disease can be eliminated with diet and lifestyle changes.
Backed by Science
At Tanner Care, we follow a multi-pronged approach that benefits from the research and insights of highly respected experts such as Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., Dr. Neal Barnard and many others.
With over 37 years of scientific evidence showing that changes in diet and lifestyle can make a powerful difference in heart function and overall well-being, Dr. Dean Ornish and his colleagues have published studies in more than 25 peer-reviewed journals. In all, they have shown that programs focused on lifestyle change — such as Tanner Care’s — don’t just prevent disease, but can also reverse it.
Since lifestyle change is at the “heart” of this program, we’ll focus on education, nutrition, yoga/exercise and small group interaction to make a lasting change. You’ll build healthy eating and stress management skills to enhance your new way of living and help you enjoy supportive relationships with loved ones and friends.
The Program
Our goal is to help you achieve a “heart-attack proof” level of cholesterol (total cholesterol below 150, LDL below 80) without the use of statin medications and through lifestyle change only.
Lifestyle Change Phase
20 weekly sessions
2.5 hour sessions
Maintenance Phase
8 monthly sessions
2.5 hour sessions
Program Components
Nutrition
As you enjoy a tasty and filling whole food, plant-based, low-fat meal, you will learn how the food you are eating is helping your heart and circulatory system to heal. We will show you how easy it is to make sustainable lifestyle changes through supportive systems, while avoiding obstacles and pitfalls.
Yoga and Exercise
Learn exercises and simple habits you can build into your daily routine from a physical therapist. A licensed yoga instructor will show you how to use breathing exercises, movement and quiet to deal with the stress of your life in a healthy way, breaking old patterns.
Small Group Support
Each week, you will be led in small-group discussions with people who are sharing the experience with you. The therapist leading your sessions will help you celebrate what is working and explore challenges, giving you a chance to learn from and support one another.
