Backed by Science
Our program is not about eating less and going hungry, but about eating well and being satisfied with healthy plant-based meals and snacks, and adopting daily routines to support a healthy lifestyle for years and decades to come.
Tanner Care follows the Program for Reversing Diabetes developed by Neal Barnard, MD. As President of the Physicians’ Committee for Responsible Medicine, Dr. Barnard has shown that the reduced insulin-sensitivity of diabetic and pre-diabetic patients can be reversed through a low-fat, plant-based diet.
Dr. Barnard’s approach was shown to be three times more effective at reducing A1C than the standard diet recommended by the American Diabetes Association. In a study, Dr. Barnard saw a group of diabetes patients lose an average of 16 pounds and drop their fasting blood sugar levels by 28% in 90 days. Most study participants eliminated or greatly reduced their medications.
Tanner Care is a member of the American Diabetes Association.
Diabetes Prevention & Reversal Program
For most diabetics, progression can be reversed through a change in diet and lifestyle..
Program Components
Nutrition
As you enjoy a tasty and filling whole food, plant-based, low-fat meal, you will learn how the food you are eating is helping your heart and circulatory system to heal. We will show you how easy it is to make sustainable lifestyle changes through supportive systems, while avoiding obstacles and pitfalls.
Yoga and Exercise
Learn exercises and simple habits you can build into your daily routine from a physical therapist. A licensed yoga instructor will show you how to use breathing exercises, movement and quiet to deal with the stress of your life in a healthy way, breaking old patterns.
Small Group Support
Each week, you will be led in small-group discussions with people who are sharing the experience with you. Our professional coaches will help you celebrate what is working and explore challenges, giving you a chance to learn from and support one another.
